Founded in 2010, the Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik e.V. (VLOG – Association Food without Genetic Engineering) is a German industry association that represents food manufacturers and retailers as well as sectors upstream and downstream to food production. VLOG promotes food manufacture without GMOs and also engages in consumer education. It awards licences for use of the standardized seal “Ohne GenTechnik” to be used on food products that meet its standard and “VLOG geprüft” for animal nutrition. More than 8,000 food products are currently labeled with the “Ohne GenTechnik” seal. The Association currently represents more than 650 members and licensees that are primarily from Germany and stand for combined annual sales of seal-bearing products of 5.4 billion euros.
VLOG is an association registered with the Associations Register in Berlin, Germany. Although non-charitable, it is a non-profit company. Members elect a Board consisting of five directors, each of whom has a two-year tenure. An Advisory Council (currently six members from industry, government and civil society) supports the Board when needed. VLOG has an exclusive agreement with the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) entitling it exclusively to license the use of the official "Ohne GenTechnik" seal to industry users. User licenses have also been granted to brand owners and manufacturers not based in Germany.
