VLOG Newsletter 05/21 .:. September

Dear Readers,

why is a German federal consumer protection authority warning a U.S. GMO manufacturer by email about an alleged "VLOG campaign"? Unfortunately, we still do not know either. The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) has so far not provided us with an answer to this question.

Legal and political framework conditions are particularly important for the "Ohne Gentechnik" [Non GMO] sector. On this Sunday, there will be the general election in Germany. The outcome is more open than it has been for a long time. There will likely be more possible coalition constellations than ever before. Our new parliamentary group questionnaire shows clearly the very different political plans in the field of genetic engineering. It is exciting to see what will be the outcome in the end - we will stay tuned. Until the new government is formed, we will certainly send you some more newsletters.

We wish you an interesting reading and a good choice in the election!

VLOG asks parliamentary groups on future of "Ohne Gentechnik"

For the "Ohne Gentechnik" sector, there are trend-setting political decisions to be made in the coming legislative period. All parties currently represented in the German parliament [Bundestag] have expressed their views on the subject in their election programs. VLOG wanted to know more and therefore asked the vice chairmen of the current parliamentary groups responsible for the topic, except for the AfD, seven specific questions.

Authority informed U.S. GMO manufacturer about VLOG "campaign"

The German Federal Agency of Consumer Protection and Food Safety [Bundesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit – BVL], responsible, among other topics, for genetic engineering checks in food and feed, informed the U.S. GM seed company Cibus in April about an alleged "new campaign" by the Association Food without Genetic Engineering [Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik – VLOG], according to a report of German news magazine DER SPIEGEL.

Infographic: Three quarters of milk GMO-free

The share of non-GMO milk in the total volume produced in Germany has again risen sharply. Conventional "Ohne Gentechnik" and organic milk together now account for 76 percent, or more than three quarters. You can find this and many other infographics in our Download Center.

"Climate eggs" through local soy feed

If egg laying hens are fed with local soy instead of imported soy from South America, the climate impact of their eggs shrinks by 41 percent. Soy cultivation in Europe has great potential and can be a component in securing GMO-free feeding, which is currently burdened by high prices for imported soy.
