| Dear readers, the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers is meeting in Brussels today. New genomic techniques (NGT) are also on the agenda. The new German coalition is divided on this issue, as recently became clear in the national parliament Bundestag. The new German Minister of Agriculture, Alois Rainer (CSU), has not yet taken a public position. However, a recent VLOG survey shows that the majority of Germans clearly want Rainer to advocate for the preservation of compulsory labelling for NGTs at EU level. It would indeed be grossly negligent and also economically absurd to put the successful “Ohne Gentechnik” [Non GMO] and organic food industry at risk by abolishing the basic GMO transparency rules - also in view of the extremely poor global market balance of NGTs to date. The second and possibly decisive round of trilogue negotiations between the EU Commission, European Parliament and Council of Ministers will take place next Monday. You can find out first-hand what the outcome was at our VLOG .:. Forum on 3 July in Berlin and discuss it with us. We look forward to welcoming you there!Your VLOG team
