VLOG Newsletter 03/24 .:. May

Dear readers,

A new European Parliament will be elected on 9 June. The result will also have an impact on the future regulation of new genetic engineering in the EU and thus on the entire GMO-free agriculture and food industry.

A final attempt by the Belgian EU Council Presidency to reach an agreement between the Member States on new genetic engineering regulations failed shortly before the election. This topic will also be on our agenda at this year's VLOG .:. Forum on 20 June.

We would like to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the ‘Ohne GenTechnik’ seal together with you at this panel and a festive evening reception in Berlin. There are still a few places available at the only German-speaking events. Please register separately for both events - see below.

Thursday, 20 June 2024, ‘Wartehalle’ at the Nordbahnhof railway station
1:00 - 5:00 pm: VLOG .:. Forum 2024 (admission from 12:00 pm)
7:30 pm - 00:00 am: Reception ‘15 years of the “Ohne GenTechnik” seal’

Our exclusive partner for the seal anniversary is Molkerei Berchtesgadener Land.

We look forward to exchanging ideas and celebrating our anniversary together!

VLOG .:. Forum 2024: Continuing the ‘Ohne GenTechnik’ success story

To mark the 15th anniversary of the ‘Ohne GenTechnik’ seal, there will be a special edition of the VLOG .:. Forum on 20 June 2024. The VLOG .:. Forum is an excellent opportunity to network with around one hundred participants from the food and feed industry, politics, associations and the media. Secure one of the last places now!

We are celebrating 15 years of the "Ohne GenTechnik" seal: Join us!

The ‘Ohne GenTechnik’ seal turns 15! We would like to celebrate this together with you and other hand-picked guests from the food and feed industry, politics, associations and the media at a festive reception on 20 June 2024 in Berlin. Following a video message from Ilse Aigner, Renate Künast will open the evening with a welcome address. During and after our buffet dinner in ‘Ohne Gentechnik’ quality, we will then have the opportunity to celebrate, reminisce and discuss the past and future of the seal and to network in a relaxed, summery and festive atmosphere in the event location "Wartehalle" and on the outdoor terrace until late in the summer evening. Be there and secure your participation now!

European elections 2024: Who wants to preserve genetic engineering rules, who wants to abolish them?

The result of the European elections on 9 June 2024 will also have an impact on the EU's future genetic engineering regulations. In Bavaria, this is even an election campaign issue. What is the position of the various German political parties?

European regions call for revision of EU genetic engineering plans

The European Committee of the Regions warns that the resilience of EU agriculture is jeopardised by new genetic engineering and calls for changes to the EU Commission's genetic engineering plans.

No deregulation of genetic engineering before the European elections

The EU Commission's plans for new genetic engineering legislation have been postponed until the next legislative period. This provides time to consider new scientific findings and convince other Member States of the risks of deregulating genetic engineering.

New research on genetic engineering transparency: No more excuses for deregulation

New EU research projects on the detection and traceability of new genetic engineering in food are bringing a new momentum to the debate on the future regulation of genetic engineering in the EU. VLOG is also involved.

Genetically engineered maize produces insect-poisonous invasive wild plant

Bayer's genetically engineered maize MON810 crosses with the related wild plant teosinte and also transmits the insect-toxic protein, new research in Spain shows. The hybrid transgenic plants are spreading invasively.

Explosive government assessment: Many risks associated with new genetic engineering

France's food safety authority Anses sees numerous risks associated with new genetic engineering and urgently recommends risk assessments and monitoring. The controversial report refutes the EU Commission and the French government and was initially withheld.

Non-GMO Summit 2024: The future of "Ohne Gentechnik" production

Current challenges, legal developments and market potential for ‘Ohne Gentechnik’ are the focus of the second International Non-GMO Summit on 7 and 8 October 2024 in Frankfurt am Main, which VLOG is organising together with ARGE Gentechnik-frei, Donau Soja, ENGA and ProTerra Foundation. The programme is online and ticket sales will start on 3 June with an early bird discount. BUsinesses still have the opportunity to present themselves as sponsors to an exclusive audience of experts at the summit.
