VLOG Newsletter 03/26 .:. May

Dear readers,

The time has come: on 13 May, the Non-GMO sector will gather for the International Non-GMO Summit in Frankfurt, Germany. The conference will open with welcoming addresses from, among others, the German Minister for Agriculture, Alois Rainer.

The Non-GMO Summit will focus entirely on the upcoming EU deregulation of New Genetic Techniques (NGT), on which the European Parliament is expected to hold a final vote in June. What do the new rules mean for “Non-GMO” and organic products? How can we continue to reliably exclude both “old” and “new” genetic engineering? You can still join us when the industry discusses these questions together.

A new legal opinion shows that, from a purely legal standpoint, “Non-GMO” must also stand for “No NGT”.

Our seal is already widely used as a guide when shopping. Deregulation is likely to make it even more important.

We look forward to welcoming you too in Frankfurt next week!

Non-GMO Summit on 13 May: Secure your participation now!

On 21 April 2026, the EU Member States formally approved the planned dilution of EU regulations on New Genetic Engineering (NGT) by a very narrow qualified majority. All that remains now is the final vote in the European Parliament. How can and will the food industry deal with NGT in GMO-free feed and food chains in the future? This pressing question is the focus of the third international Non-GMO Summit on 13 May 2026 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Secure your participation in this important industry event now!

The “Ohne GenTechnik” (Non-GMO) seal is widely used when shopping

A total of 88 percent of those who are familiar with the “Ohne GenTechnik” (Non-GMO) seal also use it as a guide when shopping. 27 percent use it frequently, 45 percent occasionally and a further 16 percent at least occasionally; only 10 percent never use it.

Legal opinion: "Ohne Gentechnik" must also exclude New Genetic Engineering

For food products labelled "Ohne Gentechnik" (Non-GMO), new genetic engineering (NGT) will remain prohibited by law, even after the planned EU deregulation. This is the conclusion of a new legal opinion commissioned by VLOG.

Focus on Contamination Risks: EU Field Trials and Reported GM Risks in 2025

With 27 approved field trials of genetically modified crops in six European countries, as well as 10 notifications via the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), there were several additional risks of contamination with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) for "Ohne Gentechnik" (Non-GMO) production in 2025.

New listings: All VLOG members and seal users

We have updated the listings of all “Ohne GenTechnik” (Non-GMO) and “VLOG geprüft” (VLOG verified) seal users, as well as our member businesses, on our website.
