The “Ohne GenTechnik” (Non-GMO) seal is widely used when shopping

- A total of 88 percent of those who are familiar with the “Ohne GenTechnik” (Non-GMO) seal also use it as a guide when shopping. 27 percent use it frequently, 45 percent occasionally and a further 16 percent at least occasionally; only 10 percent never use it.

These figures are part of the results of a comprehensive recent survey conducted in April 2026 by food labelling expert Prof Dr Holger Buxel of Münster University of Applied Sciences on behalf of the Association Food without Genetic Engineering (VLOG).

“How often do you use the ‘Ohne Gentechnik’ seal as a guide when shopping to select food products for yourself?” was the question put to all participants who had previously indicated in the market research study that they were familiar with the seal.

“These very encouraging figures demonstrate the already high relevance of the ‘Ohne Gentechnik’ seal in everyday shopping. I expect that, with the imminent abolition of mandatory labelling for most New GMOs, even more consumers will use it even more frequently in future. This will make the label an important distinguishing feature and competitive advantage for far more products than before,” said VLOG Managing Director Alexander Hissting.
