Data Protection Information

1. Data Protection at a Glance

General Information

The following is a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit our website. Personal data are any data that can be used to identify you. For detailed information about the subject of data protection, please refer to our data protection information below.

Who is responsible for the data collection on this website?

The data on this website is processed by the website operator. You can also find the data processor’s contact details on the legal notice page of this website.

The party responsible for processing the data on this website is:

Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik e.V. (hereinafter referred to as “VLOG”)

Friedrichstraße 153a
10117 Berlin, Germany

+49 (0) 30 2359 945 00
info(at)ohnegentechnik(dot)org

The controller is the natural or legal person who alone or jointly with others determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data (e.g., names, e-mail addresses, etc.).

How do we collect your data?

For one thing, we collect the data you provide to us. This can be, for example, data you enter into a contact form.

Other data are automatically collected by our IT systems when you visit the website. These are mainly technical data (e.g., Internet browser, operating system or the time the page was viewed). These data are collected automatically as soon as you enter our website.

What do we use your data for?

Some of the data are collected to ensure that the website is made available without any errors. Other data may be used to analyze your user behavior if we have your consent to do so on file.

What rights do you have regarding your data?

You have the right to receive information, free of charge, about your stored personal data at any time. You also have the right to have your data rectified, erased or their processing restricted. You also have the right to object to their processing and the right to data portability. Regarding this or if you have more questions about data protection, please feel free to contact us at any time at the address provided on the legal notice page. You also have the right to file a complaint about our processing of your personal data with a data protection supervisory authority.

Third-party Analytics and Tools

When visiting our website, your surfing behavior may be statistically analyzed, provided you gave your consent. This analysis is performed primarily by means of cookies and so-called analysers. The analysis of your surfing behavior is usually anonymous; the surfing behavior cannot be traced back to you. You can object to this analysis or prevent it by not using certain tools. For more detailed information on this, please refer to the data protection information provided below.

Revocation of your Data Processing Consent

Many data processing operations are only possible with your express consent. You may at any time revoke any consent you have given. For this purpose, an informal e-mail sent to datenschutz@ohnegentechnik.org is sufficient. The legality of the data processing carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation. You may also revoke your consent to certain cookies via the “Cookies” tab in the footer of the website.

SSL or TLS Encryption

This site uses SSL or TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as orders or inquiries that you send to us as the site operator. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in your browser line.

When SSL or TLS encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

We would like to point out that data transmission on the Internet (e.g., communication by e-mail) may have security vulnerabilities. A complete protection of the data against access by third parties is not possible.

2. Data Collection on our Website

Cookies

The website pages in part use so-called cookies. Cookies do not cause any damage to your computer and do not contain any viruses. The purpose of cookies is to make our website more user-friendly, effective and secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and saved by your browser.

Most of the cookies we use are so-called “session cookies.” They are automatically deleted after the end of your visit. Other cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them. These cookies make it possible for us to recognize your browser on your next visit.

You can set your browser so that you are informed when an attempt is made to store cookies and only allow cookies in individual cases, exclude the acceptance of cookies for certain cases or in general and activate the automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. If you deactivate cookies, the functionality of this website may be limited.

Cookies that are required to carry out the electronic communication process or to provide certain functions that you have requested are stored on the basis of Art. 6 (1) lit. f of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The website operator has a legitimate interest in storing cookies for the technically error-free and optimized provision of its services. To the extent that other cookies (e.g., cookies for the analysis of your surfing behavior) are stored, we will obtain your consent for doing so, thus making Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR the legal basis for the processing.

Server Log Files

We automatically collect and store information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us.

These are:

•    IP address
•    Date and time of the server request
•    Websites from which the user's system accesses our website
•    Websites that are accessed by the user's system via our website
•    Browser type/browser version
•    Operating system used
•    Host name of the accessing computer
•    Bytes transferred

Contact Form

If you use the contact form to send us an inquiry, your details from the inquiry form, including the contact details you enter there, will be stored by us for the purpose of processing the inquiry and in the event of follow-up questions. We do not pass these data on without your consent.

The processing of the data entered into the contact form is therefore based on your consent (Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR). You may revoke this consent at any time. For this purpose, an informal e-mail to us is sufficient. The legality of the data processing operations carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.

If you make your request as part of the performance of precontractual measures, Art. 6 (1) lit. b GDPR constitutes the legal basis.

We will store the data you enter into the contact form until you request the erasure of said data, revoke your consent to their storage or the purpose for storing the data no longer applies (e.g., after we have completed processing your request). Mandatory legal provisions — in particular retention periods — remain unaffected.

3. Social Media

We have not integrated any components of the services Facebook, Twitter and XING on our WEB presence and only provide links to these.

A social network such as Facebook is a social meeting place and online community operated on the Internet that usually allows users to communicate and interact with each other in the virtual space. A social network can serve as a platform for sharing opinions and experiences or allow the Internet community to provide personal or business-related information. Facebook allows users of that social network to create private profiles, upload photos and network, for example, via friend requests.

The data policy published by Facebook, which is available at https://de-de.facebook.com/about/privacy/, provides information about the collection, processing and use of personal data by Facebook. It also explains which setting options Facebook offers to protect user privacy. In addition, various applications are available that make it possible to suppress a transmission of data to Facebook. Users may use such applications to suppress the transmission of data to Facebook.

Vimeo

We use “Vimeo” on our website to display videos. This is a service provided by Vimeo, LL C, 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011, USA, hereinafter referred to as “Vimeo.”

Some of the user data are processed on Vimeo servers in the USA.

Art. 6 (1) 1 lit. f GDPR constitutes the legal basis. Our legitimate interest is the quality improvement of our website.

If you visit a page on our website in which a video is embedded, a connection is established to the Vimeo servers in the United States in order to display the video. For technical reasons, it is necessary that Vimeo processes your IP address. In addition, the date and time of your visit to our website will be recorded as well.

If you are logged into Vimeo while you visit one of our websites in which a Vimeo video is embedded, Vimeo may assign the information collected in the process to your personal Vimeo user account. If you wish to prevent this, you must either log out of Vimeo before visiting our website or configure your Vimeo user account accordingly.

For the purpose of functionality and usage analysis, Vimeo uses the web analytics service Google Analytics. Google Analytics stores cookies on your end device via your Internet browser and sends information about the use of our website, in which a Vimeo video is embedded, to Google. It cannot be ruled out that Google processes this information in the United States.

If you do not agree to this processing, you have the option of preventing the installation of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your Internet browser. Details on this can be found above under the item “Cookies.”

Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR constitutes the legal basis. Our legitimate interest is the quality improvement of our website and Vimeo’s legitimate interest to statistically analyze user behavior for optimization and marketing purposes.

Further information on the purpose and scope of collection and processing of data by Vimeo can be found in the provider's privacy policy at https://vimeo.com/privacy where you will also find further information on your rights in this regard and on settings options for the protection of your privacy.

4. Analysis Tools and Advertising

Google Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). For Europe, the company Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street Dublin 4, Ireland) is designated as the responsible party.

This tool is used on the basis of Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR because we obtain your consent for this purpose.

Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies,” i.e., text files that are stored on your computer and that allow for an analysis of the use of the website by you. The information generated by cookies about your use of the website, such as

-    browser type/version,
-    operating system used,
-    referrer URL (the web page you visited just prior to visiting our site),
-    host name of the accessing computer (IP address),
-    time of the server request

is usually transmitted to and saved on a Google server in the USA. The IP address transmitted by your browser within the context of Google Analytics is not merged with other Google data.

We have activated the IP anonymization function on this website. This means that your IP address will be truncated by Google within member states of the European Union or in other states that are a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area before it is transmitted to the United States. Only in exceptional circumstances will a full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there.

Google provides the operator of this website with information about the use of the website and reports on website activity in order to be able to provide other services related to website use and Internet use to the website operator.

You may prevent the storage of the cookies by selecting the corresponding setting in your browser software. Please note, however, that in that case you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of this website. You may also prevent the collection of data generated by the cookies and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) by Google and the processing of these data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin available under the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.

As an alternative to the browser add-on, in particular for browsers on mobile terminals, you can also prevent your data from being collected by Google Analytics by clicking on this link. An opt-out cookie will be placed that will prevent the future collection of data when visiting this website. The opt-out cookie works only in this browser and only for our website. It is stored on your device. If you delete the cookies in this browser, you will have to set the opt-out cookie again.

This website uses the “demographic characteristics” function of Google Analytics. This makes it possible to generate reports that contain information about the age, gender and interests of website visitors. These data come from Google’s interest-based advertising as well as visitor data from third-party providers. These data cannot be assigned to a specific person. You can deactivate this function at any time via the ad settings in your Google account or in general prohibit the collection of your data by Google Analytics as outlined above.

You can find more information about how Google Analytics handles user data in Google's privacy information at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=de.

5. Newsletter

Newsletter Data

If you would like to receive the newsletter offered on the website, we need an e-mail address from you as well as information that allows us to verify that you are the owner of the specified e-mail address along with your agreement to receive the newsletter. Further data will not be collected or will only be collected on a voluntary basis. We use these data exclusively for sending the requested information and do not pass them on to third parties.

The processing of the data entered into the newsletter registration form is based exclusively on your consent (Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR). You can revoke your consent to the storage of the data, the e-mail address and its use for sending the newsletter at any time via the “unsubscribe” link in the newsletter. The legality of the data processing operations already carried out remains unaffected by the revocation.

The data you provide to us for the purpose of receiving the newsletter will be stored by us until you unsubscribe from the newsletter and will be deleted after you unsubscribe from the newsletter. Data that have been stored by us for other purposes (e.g., e-mail addresses for the member area) remain unaffected by this.
