Dear readers,

For the second time already, a solely virtual “Green Week” is behind us due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, there was a lively exchange in various online formats. Remarkable was the new demonstrative alliance between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment, both of which, as we know, are now under Green leadership.

We are curious and hope that this cooperative course will also have a positive effect on the "Ohne Gentechnik" [Non GMO] sector. After all, there is no shortage of topics. From EU regulation of new GMO to detection methods, there is a lot on our political agenda.

Baden-Wuerttemberg: No more GMO contamination found in harvest monitoring

No GMO contaminants were found in the routine 2021 harvest monitoring in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. In the previous year, a detection in linseed had far-reaching consequences.

European Danube Soya booming

The production of GMO-free soybeans certified by Danube Soya and Europe Soya increased by an enormous 49 percent in 2021. This means that in 2021, 10 percent of the European soy harvest already met the standard also recognised by VLOG.

England: Genetic engineering deregulation for research only for now

The announced deregulation for certain new genetic engineering processes in England after Brexit is taking shape. Initially, it will apply "only" to research. For commercial cultivation and use in food and feed, approval procedures and labeling will remain in place.

High level of awareness and trust in "Ohne Gentechnik"

Almost all consumers are familiar with the "Ohne Gentechnik" (Non GMO) label. Trust in the label is also high, according to a recent study it ranks 5th after the Organic, Vegan, Bioland and Demeter labels.

Group organiser agriculture – Reminder submission member list & analysis results

With the introduction of the VLOG Standard version 22.01, group organizers are required to submit the following data to VLOG in the period 01 January to 31. March of each calendar year: 1) Current, reduced list of members (only data of the area marked with "Data transfer to VLOG") according to Annex (23a) or for laying hens Annex (23b). 2) Complete evaluation of the analysis results according to Annex (23d).
