European Danube Soya booming
Total European soybean production in 2021 was already 9.5 million tons, 6.4 percent above the previous year. Through so-called "protein partnership programs", Danube Soya plans to further expand the certified soybean volume significantly. With these programs, mainly local farms in the non-EU Danube cultivation regions in southeastern Europe are supported in complying with the higher EU standards.
Soybean prices rise significantly in Brazil, but remain stable in Europe
Feedstuffs compounded from GMO-free European soybeans are a building block for the "Ohne Gentechnik" [Non-GMO] sector at least partially mitigating price developments for overseas soybeans that are difficult to predict. Adverse weather conditions in Brazil have recently led to drastic price increases for the upcoming soybean harvest. However, the price of GMO-free soybeans from Europe has remained stable.
Domestic protein crops as soy alternatives
Another possibility for "Ohne Gentechnik" production to reduce dependence on soy-based feedstuffs is to use alternatives such as the domestic protein crop field bean in combination with sunflower seeds.
