Recognition of the ProTerra Standard enables certification outside of the EU

- From 2026, the VLOG will recognise certifications issued by the Dutch ProTerra Foundation as equivalent. This means that, for the first time, certification will be possible for food produced outside of the EU.

The new VLOG recognition of the ProTerra Standard applies only to plant-based foods, and certain additional requirements must be met. This facilitates access to the German "Ohne Gentechnik" (Non-GMO) market for relevant non-European products.

The recognition of this so-called "ProTerra PLUS+" certification supports the harmonisation of certification systems whilst adhering to strict verification requirements and is an important first step towards further recognitions.

Several other standards have previously been recognised by VLOG as equivalent to the "Ohne GenTechnik" Production and Certification Standard, though so far only for food produced in Europe. If a company or product is certified to one of these recognised standards, no additional VLOG certification is required to benefit from its advantages. Companies certified to standards recognised as equivalent may also apply for a licence to use the "Ohne Gentechnik" seal.
