As a member of DIN, the German standards institute, VLOG is involved in the standardisation of GMO detection methods
GMO detection methods are a key tool for safeguarding the “Ohne Gentechnik” (Non-GMO) supply chain and a vital component of the VLOG control system. Through its participation in the DIN standardisation committees for GMO detection methods, VLOG aims to help reconcile the requirements of the food and feed industries with scientific expertise and practical applicability.
DIN’s mission is to initiate, organise, manage, and facilitate standardisation processes in the public interest. The standards developed promote innovation, efficiency, and understanding in business, science, government, and the public. They also make an important contribution to quality assurance, compatibility, and interchangeability of products and processes, as well as to health, consumer, occupational, and environmental protection. In doing so, standardisation work is guided by generally accepted technical rules and their current state of the art.
VLOG joined DIN as a member as of 1 May 2026. Starting in July 2026, Dr Lutz Grohmann will represent our association on the DIN Working Committee on “Genetically Modified Foods” (NA 057-01-04 AA), which is part of the Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products (NAL).
Molecular biologist Lutz Grohmann has played a key role in the standardisation and validation of detection methods for GMOs - including New Genomic Technologies (NGT). Until his retirement, as a long-time employee and expert at the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), he played a decisive role in shaping Germany’s official food monitoring system and represented the BVL in numerous standardisation committees. The author of numerous scientific publications continues to be regarded as a recognised expert in validation and GMO analysis even in retirement.
“We are very pleased to have this exceptionally competent support on the important topic of genetic engineering detection methods. We are very grateful to Dr Lutz Grohmann for taking on this role on behalf of VLOG,” says VLOG Managing Director Alexander Hissting.
