One in two people are familiar with the "Ohne GenTechnik" seal
This was the result of a representative survey commissioned by the Association Food without Genetic Engineering (VLOG). The German organic seal and the animal welfare label are even better known, at 81 and 69 percent respectively. The MSC and EU organic seal are roughly on a par with "Ohne GenTechnik" at 53 and 50 percent, followed by Demeter at 46 percent. Other seals are significantly less well known.
"The fact that around half of all respondents are familiar with our label is a very solid figure. Especially when you consider that the “Ohne GenTechnik” label is currently only really widespread in a few product categories such as dairy products, eggs and poultry meat," says VLOG Managing Director Alexander Hissting. "A 52 percent awareness level is a good starting point if 'Ohne GenTechnik' becomes even more relevant in the future due to new regulations and labelling gaps. Then there is certainly room for improvement."
In July 2025, 52 percent of a total of 1,107 respondents stated in a comprehensive representative online survey conducted by Prof Dr Holger Buxel from Münster University of Applied Sciences on behalf of VLOG, that they had noticed the "Ohne GenTechnik" seal on food products before the survey.
