Campaign for GMO-free food

- From 13 September to 13 October 2024, an alliance of associations and initiatives is promoting a campaign for a GMO-free agriculture and food industry. Numerous events will draw attention to the threats posed to food production without genetic engineering by the deregulation of EU genetic engineering legislation. 19 September marks "GMO-free food day".

Raising awareness and communicating information

With the slogan "No genetic engineering on our fields and plates", the alliance partners have developed materials and concepts for farms and processing businesses and provide them for campaigns and events. A list of these events is already available on the website. Festivals, guided tours, films, information stands and discussions are planned in many German Länder and there is still room for more. The campaign aims at setting an example and at informing consumers and players in the food industry about the risks of cultivating genetically engineered plants and the benefits of GMO-free food production. The aim is to maintain the current strict regulation of genetic engineering in EU legislation, including for so-called new genomic technologies (NGT).

Supporters of the campaign and contact partners for events and activities are the Action Alliance for GMO-free Agriculture, the Working Group for Rural Agriculture (AbL), Bingenheimer Saatgut, Biokreis, Bioland and Junges Bioland, bio verlag, the Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND), the Federal Association of Natural Food Products (BNN), Demeter and Naturland.
