International Green Week: "Ohne GenTechnik" campaign enters second round

- At the 2026 International Green Week, the second round of the "Do you know what you're eating?" campaign will raise awareness among food fair visitors of the politically topical issue of genetic engineering labelling and the "Ohne GenTechnik" (Non-GMO) seal.

The eye-catching motifs of distorted food products in the form of a question mark will be displayed on a series of large billboards around the Berlin exhibition grounds and at its entrances, as well as at the main railway station, drawing attention to genetic engineering in food and the "Ohne GenTechnik" seal. With this highly targeted placement, the campaign effectively reaches interested consumers and stakeholders alike.

Optimal timing in the midst of the deregulation process

The timing is also politically optimal: Following the provisional agreement reached by the EU Member States on "new genetic engineering" (NGT) shortly before Christmas, the EU deregulation process will continue at full speed in early 2026. The crucial question here is: Will consumers continue to be able to tell whether food contains genetic engineering? Whatever the EU's final decision will be, the "Ohne GenTechnik" seal will continue to guarantee GMO-free products – just like organic products.

Campaign ran nationwide in October 2025

In October 2025, the Association Food without Genetic Engineering (VLOG) launched its "Do you know?" campaign on large public screens (digital out-of-home) and mobile devices (mobile ads) across Germany for the first time to raise consumer awareness of the issue of genetic engineering in food and the "Ohne GenTechnik" seal.

The displays on the large screens generated almost 10 million gross contacts, plus over half a million visual contacts on mobile devices. This clearly achieved the reach targets. The campaign was developed for VLOG by the Zurich-based agency Normal, which had already made a name for itself with its eye-catching communication for the Fair Trade seal.

International Green Week: Panel debate on genetic engineering in food with Alnatura, dennree, VLOG and Bioland

At this year's International Green Week, VLOG is also hosting a panel debate together with Bioland on 16 January 2026 at 1:15 p.m. in the Organic Hall 22a titled "Genetic engineering in food – How can consumers still recognise it in the future?" with Gunther Weiss (Alnatura), Lukas Nossol (dennree), Alexander Hissting (VLOG) and Carolin Pagel (Bioland). We will also be talking to many politicians and stakeholders at the food fair. In addition, the topic of "genetic engineering in food" will be present at other exhibitors at International Green Week 2026 against the backdrop of the impending abolition of mandatory labelling.
