Youth associations: Secure GMO-free food production!

- Several youth associations from the sectors of agriculture, food and environmental protection are speaking out against genetic engineering deregulation. For their generation, this is a particularly important concern.

Joint resolution - from "Junges Bioland" to "BUNDjugend"

In their joint resolution "We want to be able to choose! Securing GMO-free food production", the youth organisations of Bioland, Naturland, AbL, SlowFood and "Freie Bäcker" [Independendent Bakers] as well as the "Bündnis Junge Landwirtschaft" [Alliance of Young Farmers], Naturschutzjugend and BUNDjugend call for the preservation of a clear framework that makes GMO-free agriculture and food production possible and protects it.

Ensuring freedom of choice and traceability

The demands include ensuring freedom of choice and traceability, stopping patents on life, as well as traceability, retrievability, detection methods and compulsory labelling up to the end product, also for new genetic engineering methods and products

Having a choice in the future

From their perspective, the youth organisations emphasise in particular that they want to keep having the choice: "We want to be able to produce, breed, grow, process, market and consume high-quality food without GMO in the future, whether organic or conventional," they write in the resolution. "As young people, we depend on the existing diversity and access to it in order to face the coming challenges such as the climate crisis or species extinction."
